Celebrating the Holidays

Today I am joining Sweet Marie's Holiday Traditions Party at Emma Calls Me Mama. I am going to go ahead and apologize.  I don't have many digital holiday photos... I got a new camera and computer after Christmas, so they are not on here.  But, I will share with you the traditions my little family has started.  We really only decorate for Christmas.  We get a real tree and put it up by December 7th (my birthday.)  And, I decorate with alot of paper snowflakes that we cut out.  Alot!  I wish I had a photo of them to share, but I put them in every window in the house and pull the blinds up so we can enjoy them.  Last year, I even decorated the tree with them.  I just love simple decorations.

Every year, my sister and I got new Christmas pj's.  And, I carried on the tradition with Baby Hughes...doesn't he look enthralled with Christmas?

Last year, I bought a copy of The Night Before Christmas for Mr. Hughes to start reading every Christmas Eve.  I dedicated it to him and I have visions of him reading it to Baby Hughes every year before we tuck him in to wait for Santa.

And, one last thing that makes a holiday special for me (you see, I don't really like traditional Thanksgiving food.  I know, I am weird) is Cherry Slop.  You are probably wondering why anyone would want to eat something called "slop" and I will tell you... it is delicious!  It is actually called Cherry Fluff, but I called it slop when I was little and the name stuck.  So, here is the recipe:

*one can of cherry pie filling
*one can of pineapple tidbits or crushed pineapple, drained
*one 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk
*one tub of Cool Whip (thawed a little)

Okay, you just put it in a big bowl, mix it up, and refrigerate until you are ready to serve it.
Now, the proper way to serve it is in a greenish yellow Pyrex bowl with daisies on the side(ie the Cherry Slop Bowl) that my Aunt Dee owns... it just tastes better that way.

Well, that is all I have for now.  We are really just starting our own holiday traditions as a family.  So, I am going to see what the rest of the partygoers have and maybe get some more ideas!  Thanks so much Marie for putting this party together!
